Scattered Thoughts That Aren't Profound
Hey champ,
How's it hangin'? Don't answer that, our answers are the same.
I just spent the past hour recording (and then re-recording) myself thanking a frontline worker. Simple in theory, tricky in practice; however, I encourage you to do the same. At https://www.6ftcloser.com/, they'll provide you with someone's name, occupation, and the city they're based in. Record a quick vid of gratitude, upload to the Dropbox link, and voilà!

ICYMI (that's "in case you missed it"), SXSW put a few films from their canceled festival up on Amazon (https://www.amazon.com/adlp/sxsw). Should this intrigue you, see below for my recommendations and minimalist reviews:
Basic (7.8/10) "Funny."
Afurrmative Action (6.8/10) "Damn."
Daddio (7.3/10) "Amusing. Uncomfortable."
Face to Facetime (8/10) "Held my interest!"
Mizuko (9.2/10) "Visually stunning and eloquently written."
Modern Whore (8/10) "Intriguing docu-short. Retro-cool color palette."

Loosely inspired by a chapter in one of my favorite (and aptly titled) books, So Sad Today, here's a series of "drinking games" to put into perspective the miraculous universality of our situation:
Drink every time you see a brand or company use the phrase "now more than ever" or "in these unprecedented times."
Drink every time you tune into a government briefing and they're talking about something entirely unrelated to the pandemic (e.g. Trump on drug trafficking, Cuomo on movie night selection).
Drink every time you have a nightmare.
Drink every time you realize we are actually living the nightmare.
Drink every time you get a Citizen app notification of a suspect armed with a knife. (No? Just me?)
Drink every time someone says "I think you're muted" on a Zoom call.
Drink every time your package gets delayed in the mail.
Drink every time you see a reference to Tiger King.
Drink every time you spot a hypocrite who's definitely making non-essential trips on the reg, yet still chiming in with the #StayHome Instagram stories.

Some days it's hard to stay afloat. In an attempt to counteract that, these are five things I'm thankful for:
1. Receiving snail mail.
2. Music, specifically The 1975's new song. They sound just like they did in 2015! I'm enamored again.
3. My plants (and their plant babies).
4. The plush top blanket on my bed.
5. Those who offered to send me a homemade cloth mask after I posted asking where to get one.
And finally, the only reliable part of this email:
Book: Bossypants by Tina Fey. This is her autobiography and though I know nothing about theatre, I've read it thrice.
Bop: Ode to a Song Stuck in Your Throat by Del Water Gap PS - obscurifymusic.com tells you how unique your music tastes are. The data is a little wonky, but it fun. It gives you a good idea of the specific sub-genres you trend towards. Boo: Baba ganoush. What the fresh hell, why does it taste acidic? How is one to eat this because carrots sure aren't the answer.
From an aggressively safe distance,
